Protect Your Home From Mold Growth With Water Restoration Specialists

Between 2000 and 2021, at least one flood occurred in the U.S. on four out of every five days, on average. This statistic shows that floods are an almost daily occurrence nationwide, increasing the risk of water damage in American homes.

But flooding events aren’t the only source of water damage and mold in the home. Burst pipes, roof leaks, and faulty water-using appliances are potential culprits too.

No matter what caused the water damage in your New Jersey home, local water restoration specialists can help you mitigate both the damage itself and the growth of mold. Here’s what to expect when you enlist their services.

Initial Assessment and Inspection

When water damage hits your home, the restoration specialist will first arrive to assess the damage. They’ll walk through your property to:

  • Find the source of the water
  • Identify the areas affected
  • Determine the type of water involved (clean, gray, or black water)
  • Assess the extent of the damage

This step is crucial because it helps them decide on the best approach to water restoration, depending on your home’s specific needs. Crafting a tailored approach ensures they address all issues effectively.

During this initial phase, the specialists will take immediate steps to stop the source of the water, whether it’s a burst pipe, a faulty appliance, or roof damage. Water mitigation minimizes further water intrusion and helps prevent the growth of mold.

They’ll also use specialized tools like moisture detectors and hygrometers to check the moisture levels in your walls, floors, and ceilings. They want to get a complete picture of the impact, ensuring no corner is overlooked.
This careful and methodical approach sets the stage for effective restoration.

Introduction of Safety Measures

Safety is a cornerstone of water damage restoration. That’s why specialists take every precaution to ensure that the process is as secure as it is effective.

Take a look at some safety measures they might take to ensure everyone stays safe throughout the restoration process:

Checking for Electrical Safety

Electricity and water are a dangerous mix. To prevent the risk of electrical shock, the specialists might recommend shutting off the power to the affected area. This is particularly important if the wires have been compromised.

They’ll work with a qualified electrician to ensure everything is safe before powering things back on.

Using Personal Protective Equipment

Water damage restoration specialists come prepared for battle. They’ll suit up in personal protective equipment (PPE) like:

  • Waterproof boots to keep their feet dry and avoid slips
  • Safety gloves to protect their hands from contaminants
  • Masks or respirators to keep them from breathing in mold spores or anything harmful

This gear shields them from contaminants and potential hazards, which might be present in the water. The use of PPE is also essential for your peace of mind, knowing that the team is taking every precaution to stay safe while in your home.

Assessing Structural Stability

Water damage can weaken the structure of your home. The specialists will inspect walls, floors, and ceilings to identify any potential hazards. If they discover any structural concerns, they’ll take steps to secure the area.

If necessary, they may recommend contacting a structural engineer for further evaluation. Safety is paramount, and they won’t take any chances when it comes to the stability of your home.

Keeping the Air Clear

Mold thrives in damp environments, and water damage restoration can stir up dust and debris. The specialists will likely use air movers and HEPA filters to improve air circulation and remove any harmful particles. This creates a healthier breathing environment for everyone involved in the restoration process.

By prioritizing these safety measures, water restoration specialists help keep everyone safe. Their attention to detail and commitment to safety means you can rest easy, knowing your home is in good hands.

Water Extraction and Removal

Once they have a clear understanding of the situation, the team will start extracting the standing water. They’ll use powerful pumps and vacuums to extract as much water as possible from your carpets, furniture, and flooring. This helps prevent warping, buckling, and the growth of mold, which thrives in damp environments.

Think of it as bailing out a sinking ship. The faster they remove water, the less damage it can do.

Specialists might also use specialized equipment to suck moisture from harder-to-reach areas. They know that water can hide in the most unexpected places, seeping under floors and behind walls. If not addressed promptly, this creates a perfect breeding ground for mold.

Thorough water extraction lays the groundwork for the next step of the water restoration process – drying and dehumidification.

Drying and Dehumidification

After the bulk of the water is gone, your New Jersey home may look dry. But it’s the invisible moisture that poses a risk.

Specialists use industrial-grade air movers and dehumidifiers to draw out the moisture trapped within building materials. It’s a bit like using a giant blow dryer in your home, but much more sophisticated. This step is vital for preventing mold and structural damage by ensuring removal of every last bit of moisture.

The drying process is closely monitored, adjusting equipment as needed to achieve optimal drying times.

Cleaning and Sanitizing

Water damage can leave your home with more than just structural issues. It can also leave behind odors and potential health hazards. That’s why cleaning and sanitizing are so important.

Specialists will clean your floors, walls, and other affected areas and disinfect items using antimicrobial treatments. This step helps to neutralize odors and prevent mold and mildew growth.

Knowing that your home has been thoroughly cleaned and sanitized means you can breathe easier. This good for your health and peace of mind.

    What Our Clients Say

I have worked with Joseph from AAA Restoration a few times over the last few years and they are always a pleasure to deal with and get the job done in a cost affective and timely manor. I would definitely work with them again and recommend them.

AAA Restoration took care of my mold problem from start to finish. They were professional , knowledgeable and a pleasure to deal with. I have been having a mold problem in my basement since we bought the home two years ago and we have worked with several mold remediation companies to try and get rid of the mold, it always came back 6 weeks later. It is now six month since AAA Restoration performed there work and the basement is still mold free. We can finally start using our basement without having to worry about our health. Thanks so much for everything. You have really earned a five start review from me.

    Chavi Hoberman

Highly recommend using Joseph From AAA Lead Restoration, Joseph is honest and always has a smart approach on remediation, never had an issue with mold returning, great pricing and response time. Thank you!

    Sara Sicker

I hired AAA Restoration to do the mold remediation in my basement. Within an hour of my initial call someone came out to give me an estimate and mold assessment report. Initially, I was not happy to find they charged for the estimate. Once I received the quote back that quickly changed. Lead Pros are extremely well priced. I’m talking a third of what their competitors attempted to charge me. They were also willing deduct the cost of the estimate off the final price of the job. I hired them on the spot after receiving the quote and they were on the job site within a week. As for the work itself, I could not be more satisfied. The supervisor was friendly and willing to ease the concerns of both myself and the tenants by answering an onslaught of our questions. Once the walls and floors started being torn down it became clear to them that to do the job correctly far more material would need to be removed than what was initially agreed upon. This was done at no additional cost to me which made it clear in my mind that they are dedicated to getting the job done correctly without trying to take advantage of their customers. The mold killing agent that was used was a green product so it was not necessary to vacate the premise during the time the work was going on. All contaminated materials were removed and hauled off site. Anything which could not be removed (structural support beams) were treated and encapsulated. They also used an air scrubber which was left running for 24 hours straight to ensure any disturbed mold spores would not further contaminate the air and job site. After the job was concluded I felt compelled to tip them for their great service. They wouldn’t even accept the tip! This is why I felt personally obligated to leave them this positive review. I am normally very skeptical of contractors so it is refreshing to find an outfit like this with integrity. They will absolutely be getting my business again should the need ever arise.

    Scott Santangelo

I’ve used AAA Restoration multiple times for projects we’ve done. We’ve had renovation projects with mold in the crawlspaces, asbestos shingles and tile on another project, and lead on exterior paint of an older house. AAA took care of all these problems in a timely fashion and at a reasonable price. Happy to use their services and to refer them to others.
